Kendal Mountain Festival contacted Tessa to create a piece based around 2014’s theme of the first ascent of Central Buttress, Scafell. After much experimentation and numerous visits to the Lakes to draw the crag first hand, Tessa decided that she needed to capture the rock in a way that was instantly recognizable. Inspired by the iconic photo of Siegfried Herford on the great flake, the most prominent part of the climb, she felt that it would be a fitting tribute to a historic image, taken by Geroge Sansom in April 1914.
